The Institute of Culture (Capital Cultural Development Research Center), formerly known as the Literary Theory Research Office, was established in 1978 and is one of the four earliest research offices established by the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences. In 1986, it was renamed the Institute of Literature. In order to strengthen the research on the capital’s culture and better serve the capital’s cultural construction, in 1997, with the approval of the Beijing Municipal Organization and Establishment Committee Office, the Capital Cultural Development Research Center was established and affiliated with the Institute of Literature. In 2011, with the approval of the Beijing Municipal Organization and Establishment Committee Office, the Institute of Literature was renamed the Institute of Culture, retaining the name of the Capital Cultural Development Research Center, further clarifying and expanding the research responsibilities of the Institute of Culture (Capital Cultural Development Research Center), and the Capital Cultural Development Research Center was affiliated with the Institute of Culture.
