History Institute

Founded in 1978, it was originally named the History Research Office of the Beijing Institute of Social Sciences and was renamed in 1986. Main research directions: After its establishment, the institute has mainly engaged in the history of Beijing (Beijing’s political history, economic history, cultural history, urban development history, ethnic history, religious history, folk history, and life history), the history of Chinese and foreign cultural flows, as well as historical geography, environmental changes, place names, historical comparisons between Beijing and world famous cities, urban history theory, and the protection of historical and cultural cities. Since 2006, the discipline construction of special history has been strengthened, with the history of Beijing, Chinese history after the 13th century (Yuan, Ming, Qing, and the Republic of China), and Beijing’s historical geography as the key research directions. Discipline team: Director Liu Zhonghua, Deputy Director Wang Jianwei, currently there are 19 in-service researchers, including 6 researchers, 7 associate researchers, 3 assistant researchers, and 3 postdoctoral fellows.
